Here is a link to the format from Wizard of the Coast:
https://magic.wizards.com/en/formats/commander

Commander appeals to players because of it's massive diversity, pace of play (not as aggressive as 60 card formats), that it's multiplayer (groups of 4), and that high budget cards aren't required in multiples (or even at all in the cases of this league!)

What is Commander League?

Commander league is a perfect series of Commander events to participate if you are either a tenured player that enjoys commander, or a new player getting into Magic the Gathering, or Commander! All the systems in the league contribute to an amazingly fun experience! To enter a league, you purchase your commander deck of choice. You also pay a $30 league fee, over 100% of which goes into the prize pool!

Tickets for this league are available here or in store:

How Commander League Works:

The Start of a Commander League:

For Season 6, players are able to purchase a precon commander deck from the following sets: Edge of Eternities or Lorwyn Eclipsed (4 choices), to use in the event.

Because Season 6 only has 4 deck choices, we are opening a NEW option: instead of purchasing a precon, players may build a 100 card Spider-man commander deck (80% of cards excluding basic lands must be from Spider-man including your commander, 20% may be from Avatar), or an Avatar Commander deck (80% of the cards excluding basic lands must be from the Avatar set, 20% may be from the spider-man set). Your decklists need to be submitted to me before the first pod starts to maintain fairness as everyone using a precon has their decklists readily available to view online. Your budget to build this deck is $75.

Playing your first match!

Each week players will participate in 1 scheduled match (super easy and convenient), in which they will be able to earn points based on things like placing, eliminating other players, destroying creatures etc etc similar to how a video game awards achievement points. Sheets for tracking this will be available in store for each match, and pinned in the commander league channel in discord for easy reference.

Points will be tallied and recorded in a google sheet each week and standings posted in the commander league channel.

Matches ideally are played on Commander Nights (Wednesdays or Saturdays) but in a pinch can be done anytime the store is open.

Evolving your Deck!

Between each match, you will have a budget that increases each week to use to improve your deck. This budget is the same for all players. Example: after match 1, every player has a budget of $7.5 to improve their decks! Prices are taken from the Bastion Games ecom site, and if there are issues with finding a price, from facetoface games! These cards can be ones that you already own, or ones that you purchase, or even trade for from a friend. Each card is valued at the lowest listed price for a near mint, legal, NON list version of that card. So if you have a $100 full art foil, and the regular non foil one costs $6, you would have to have a budget of at least $6 available to add it to your deck. Here is your weekly budget:

Post week 1: $7.50 Post week 6: $35.00
Post week 2: $7.50 Post week 7: $7.50
Post week 3: $25.00 Post week 8: $7.50
Post week 4: $7.50 Post week 9: $45.00
Post week 5: $7.50

Playing weeks 2 onward:

Each week you will have a pod of 4 players you will be assigned to. For the first 7 weeks, this pod is based on a schedule to make sure that you play each person as close to the same number of times. Weeks 7-10, this pod is based on the current leader board (example: week 8, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in overall standing will all be in one pod). This ensures that there will be a high amount of diversity in the players that you face, and that all players have the opportunity to finish strong!

How do prizes work?

Throughout the 10 week league, you will be earning points in each of your matches! At the end of the league, the percentage of the total points you have, determines the percentage of the total prize pool you get! That means everyone gets something! Example: at the end of the league, Joe has 100 points. The total number of points in the entire league is 1000. Joe ends the league with 10% of the points, and gets 10% of the prize pool! This prize pool is in store credit. Store credit at Bastion Games can be used for anything in store, or on the website, from event entries (you can use your credit to pay for your next Commander League entry!), to sealed product, to drinks and snacks, or singles, or anything we have in inventory! We don't believe in limiting it's use.

Season 5 we had 19 participants, which meant we collected $570 in entry fees. With my $60 from season 4, and then throwing in another $20 to make it an even cool looking amount, we had $650 in total prizes!

Season 6 will start with $56 in extra prizing from what I won in season 5.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know!

100

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0764/7005/9282/files/703157f4-18ba-4940-9ad6-036cad74c0b7-1769990300561.jpg?v=1769990303
